[origin: WO2012038077A1] The invention relates to a transfer device for horizontal transfer in a container transport system in the rail freight and/or road freight sector, having at a least one lateral shifting and lifting plate (7) which is hydraulically, pneumatically or electromechanically operated and is detachably mounted on a commercial vehicle (1), and which interacts with at least one lift adapter (9) that is detachably situated on a container carrying car (5). Preferably, two lateral shifting and lifting plates (7) are provided, which are arranged on the commercial vehicle (1) such that same engage beneath a container (3) and hold said container in a portable manner. The invention also relates to a method for the horizontal transfer of a container (3) from a commercial vehicle (1) to a container carrying car (5) or vice versa, and to the use thereof for shifting containers (3) from the commercial vehicle (1) onto a container carrying car (5) or vice versa, as a yard vehicle for relocating containers (3) and as a delivery vehicle having a lifting platform.
