[origin: WO2012045100A1] The invention relates to a method for foaming a plastic foam layer (1), in particular made of polyurethane foam, onto an outer surface (2), in particular a lower face, of a railway crosstie (3), wherein a reaction mixture (4) for forming the plastic foam layer (1) is foamed onto a base surface (5) and the railway crosstie (3) is arranged over the base surface (5) at a distance (7) with the outer surface (2) of the railway crosstie facing the base surface (5) while the reaction mixture is foamed on and the plastic foam layer (1) is fastened to the outer surface by means of foaming on only when the plastic foam layer reaches the outer surface (2).
