Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2012055457A1] The invention relates to a method and device for controlling a valve of an internal combustion engine. The valve is controlled using a desired lift curve (121), which describes a course of a desired lift value of the valve (132) over a time interval or an angle of a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. The desired lift curve (121) is automatically determined by dividing the time interval into a plurality of segments and defining respective boundary conditions for each of the plurality of segments. For each of the plurality of segments, a respective function that can be continuously differentiated once or several times is defined for the course of the desired lift value. The respective continuously differentiable function fulfills the respective boundary conditions of the respective segment. The desired lift curve (121) is formed by stringing together the continuously differentiable functions of the plurality of segments.
