Abstract (en)
A cable heating system, heating cable and cable heating controller are described. The cable heating controller includes a source of electrical power for outputting electrical power to a heating cable. The heating cable includes at least one heating element and a calibration wire. The calibration wire and heating element have substantially the same length and the calibration wire has a substantially temperature independent resistance. The cable heating controller, includes a controller configured to determine the resistance of the calibration wire, calculate the length of the heating element from the determined resistance, determine the electrical power to output to the heating element using the calculated length and control the source of electrical power to deliver the determined electrical power to the heating element.
