Abstract (en)

[origin: EP2641635A2] Back-up apparatus for use in climbing comprising is disclosed. It has particular application to rope access climbing, but may find application in other fields. The apparatus includes a slider (22) that can be applied to a back-up line (20). The slider has an attachment formation (38) by which it can be connected to a lanyard (32). The slider (22) is operative, upon application of a load on a downward direction through a lanyard so connected, to grab onto a line to which it is applied. A drawing line (40) is connected to the slider (20) by which it the slider may be drawn downwardly along a line to which it is applied. A handle (42) connected to the drawing line (40) that can be grasped by a climber, the handle having a release means that can be operated by a climber to cause the handle to release its connection with the drawing line.
