[origin: WO2012069255A1] A method for detecting rotational speeds (n) of an internal combustion engine (2) having a signal wheel (12) with marks (M1-M7) for signalling on a crankshaft (9) of the internal combustion engine (2) is described, wherein by means of a sensor (11) the marks (M1-M7) on the signal wheel (12) are detected and evaluated by a sensing and evaluation device (10). In order to implement high-precision detection of a rotational speed, the rotational speeds (n) are evaluated with a sector section of approximately 6° to 35° in order to increase the precision on the basis of a reduced sector section of the signal wheel.
