[origin: EP2644406A2] The method comprises providing a data carrier comprising a substrate disposed on a front side and a strip-shaped security element or a laser-sensitive marking (3) arranged on a rear side of the carrier, and subjecting the laser-sensitive marking to laser radiation to produce a mark that is applied on the front side of the carrier. The data carrier comprises an image obtained on the front side by laser radiation. The strip-shaped security element or laser-sensitive marking has a laser-sensitive marking area that is disposed opposite to the substrate on the front side of the carrier. The method comprises providing a data carrier comprising a substrate disposed on a front side and a strip-shaped security element or a laser-sensitive marking (3) arranged on a rear side of the carrier, and subjecting the laser-sensitive marking to laser radiation to produce a mark that is applied on the front side of the carrier. The data carrier comprises an image obtained on the front side by laser radiation. The strip-shaped security element or laser-sensitive marking has a laser-sensitive marking area that is disposed opposite to the substrate on the front side of the carrier. The mark comprises is formed on the front side of the data carrier when the mark has visually discernible differences in brightness of transmitted light, and has a higher brightness. A laser-sensitive recording layer (2) is formed on the laser-sensitive marking area so that a visually detectable marker generated on the rear side of the substrate through which the laser radiation penetrates has difference in line width and/or intensity of the color or contrast.
