[origin: WO2012073165A2] A rotary vacuum pump comprises a rotor (3) arranged to eccentrically rotate in the cavity of a pump body (2) and comprising at least one vane (11), received in a respective slot (10) and arranged to radially slide in a first or a second direction in order to bring a forward end thereof into engagement with the internal surface of the body (2) in an operating condition of the pump (1), or to move the forward end away from such a surface in an idle condition of the pump (1). The sliding of the vane(s) (11) in the first or the second direction is caused by an angular deceleration or acceleration, respectively, of the rotor. A method of controlling the pump is also provided.
