[origin: WO2012072653A1] A communications apparatus (400) for a vehicle stores a home identifier, for identifying a home vehicle on or in which the apparatus is operating, a receiver (410) for receiving messages directly from message sources in the proximity of the home vehicle, and a transmitter (415) for transmitting messages directly to message destinations in the proximity of the home vehicle. The communications apparatus (400) is capable of receiving and storing a message containing a target vehicle identifier. The communications apparatus is capable of comparing the received target vehicle identifier with the home vehicle identifier in order to establish whether the home vehicle is the target vehicle. The home vehicle can propagate a message including the received target vehicle identifier. In this way, messages can be communicated on to multiple destinations over relatively large distances in a relatively short period.
