[origin: WO2012076671A1] The invention relates to a method for aligning a sheet in front of a sheet processing machine, comprising the following steps: a) a sheet (1) arriving in a conveying plane is moved with the front edge thereof against a stop (3) and slowed down to a standstill, b) then the front region of the sheet (1) is clamped on each longitudinal side by a respective clamping device (4, 5), wherein each of the two clamping devices (4, 5) can be moved independently of the other in and transversely to the transport direction, in each case by means of at least one drive, preferably by means of two drives, c) thereafter, using a camera, which is part of a camera system, an image is recorded in each case of the right and left front regions of the sheet (1) for determining the actual position, d) the image information of the camera system is then compared to the stored target values and the necessary corrective movement for achieving the target position of the sheet (1) is calculated, e) thereafter the stop (3) at the sheet front edge is moved out of the transport plane and the calculated corrective movement is carried out, wherein the two clamping devices (4, 5) are moved independently of each other in and transversely to the transport direction.
