[origin: WO2012079905A1] The invention provides a security element for safeguarding a document of value and/or a security document, and also a method for producing the same, wherein the security element can be produced efficiently, but can be produced, and transported, with considerably reduced security requirements having to be met. The security element comprises a matrix and at least one feature substance which, upon suitable stimulation by electromagnetic radiation, luminesces and/or absorbs light and/or scatters light. The security element has a property which is suitable for verifying the document of value and/or the security document, and is constituted by luminescence and/or light absorption and/or light scattering of the security element, and also a first colour state and a second colour state, which differs from the first colour state. Furthermore, the security element can undergo irreversible activation from the first colour state into the second colour state. Only the second colour state is the colour state which is suitable for verification purposes.
