Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2012085405A1] The present invention relates to a device for correcting scoliosis, comprising a pair of distraction rods (2, 3) and a member (4) for linking the distraction rods provided with a means (8) for guiding each of the rods relative to each other inside said linking member. Said device also comprises at least one member (6) for suspending the distraction rods (2, 3) and is capable of imparting flexibility to and exerting a longitudinal preload on the rods so as to increase comfort and prevent the arthrodesis of the vertebrae of the spine of a patient fitted with the correction device. Said device finally comprises a structure for cushioning and translatably locking the distraction rods into the connection member. Said structure is only operative when compressive stresses of the spine of a patient are applied to the distraction rods (2, 3) so as to absorb and counter said compressive stresses and increase the comfort of the patient while preventing the arthrodesis of the spinal vertebrae of a patient.
