[origin: WO2012084526A1] The invention relates to a brush device for an electric motor (10), in particular for a starter of an internal combustion engine, comprising at least two brush pairs (13, 14) and a number of brush holders (22, 23) corresponding to the number of brushes, said brush holders being fastened to a brush plate (30). The brush device has an outer supply lead (38, 39) and inner power feed cables (33, 36) to the brushes (13, 14), wherein a power feed element (36) belongs to the inner power feed cables of one polarity, the power feed element being locked to the brush holders (22, 23) and containing openings (54) for locally increasing the electrical resistance and for forming a fusible cut-out. According to the invention, at least two openings (54) are arranged on the power feed element (36) such that two brushes (13, 14) of differing polarities, including the contact (50) of a brush (13) with the power feed element (36) and the connection (46) of the outer supply lead (38, 39) to the power feed element, are located in the circumferential direction between the openings.
