[origin: WO2012086990A2] A method of transmitting a stream of stereoscopic images as an overlay to a stereoscopic broadcast, the method including: dividing the stream into a plurality of sections; determining a map to represent a first eye view component of each said section; deriving a comparative map for each section representing a comparison between the first and a second eye view components for the respective section; encoding the respective map representing the first eye view components using run length encoding to produce an encoded first eye view symbol; encoding the respective comparative map using run length encoding to produce an encoded comparison symbol; assembling and transmitting a composite symbol comprising the respective encoded first eye view symbol followed by a first ending symbol, followed by the respective encoded comparison symbol and a second ending symbol.
