According to the invention for the method, the moisture and/or the presence of fluid drops outside of the particle material curtain (5) is monitored in the fall duct (4). A device suitable therefor is characterized in that at least one viewing window or one detector (8) for determining the moisture and/or for detecting the presence of fluid drops in the fall duct (4) is arranged in the fall duct (4) in order to monitor the moisture and/or the presence of fluid drops outside the particle material curtain (5).
