[origin: WO2012089353A1] Apparatus for recognizing coins and other coin-like conveyed goods (4) using a conveyor (1) for transporting the singularized conveyed goods (4), wherein the conveyor (1) runs in a recognition area of a detector (3), and has a centering device for the defined orientation of the conveyed goods (4) relative to the detector (3), in which the invention provides for the detector (3) to be an inductive analogue sensor, and for the drive of the conveyor (1) to be coupled to an incremental rotary encoder. Furthermore, a method is proposed in which the entry and exit of singularized conveyed goods (4) into and out of the recognition area of the detector (3) is detected, and the diameter (D) of the conveyed goods (4) is ascertained in the conveying direction (R) using the number of counted pulses between the entry and exit of the conveyed goods (4) from an incremental rotary encoder which is coupled to the drive of the conveyor (1).
