A plurality of packages (3) are transferred in a row, downstream of a packaging machine, and have heat-sealed flaps (2) which are bent about respective horizontal folding lines (36) and are then heated while the packages (3) are vertically transferred in a direction opposite to that in which the heat-sealed flaps (2) are bent.
