The tray (1) has side walls (3-6) extending from a bottom (2) and defining a volume for receiving a food product to be packaged, where upper free edges (7-10) of the side walls define a sealing surface of a heat sealable film. One of the upper free edges includes an enlarged heat sealing area, and defines a recess (13) extending beyond the enlarged heat sealing area, where the recess is positioned in an underlying manner with respect to an upper plane of the tray i.e. plane in which the heat sealable film fits. The tray is made of paperboard or aluminum. An independent claim is also included for a method for heat sealing the packaging tray.

Cet emballage ou barquette de conditionnement et de conservation de produits alimentaires, est défini par un fond (2), duquel s'étendent des parois latérales (3 - 6) aptes à définir un volume de réception dudit produit alimentaire à conditionner, le bord supérieur libre (7 - 10) desdites parois latérales définissant à leur tour une surface de scellement d'un film thermoscellable (11). L'un (10) des bords présente une zone de thermoscellage élargie, et le même bord (10) définit en outre un évidemment (13) apte à permettre, après scellement du film thermoscellable sur les trois autres bords adjacents (7, 8, 9), l'introduction d'un gaz neutre ou d'un gaz de protection, par le biais de dispositifs appropriés au sein du volume ainsi défini.
