[origin: EP2666898A1] The sewing machine (1) comprises a needle bar (9) for supporting a sewing needle, and a needle plate (11) in a support plate (10) for work piece. A feeder (13) is provided for transporting the work piece in a stitch area of the needle plate along a transport direction (12). A feeder drive (18) is formed, such that a movement curve of the feeder runs in a transport plateau between a transport starting point and a transport end point with a spacing deviation from an extremal distance of the feeder to the needle plate of not greater than 20 percentage parallel to the needle plate. An independent claim is included for a deflection gear assembly for transmitting a rotary movement of a drive shaft into a stroke movement of a driven component of a sewing machine.
