[origin: WO2012103862A2] The invention relates to a process for producing a cast strip of steel with material properties which are adjustable over the strip cross section and the strip length, wherein a steel melt is charged via a melting vessel onto a circulating casting belt of a horizontal strip casting installation, is solidified to form a roughed strip and is optionally then subjected to a hot-rolling operation. Furthermore, the invention relates to a device for the horizontal strip casting of steel and to a hot strip. In this case, before the melt is charged onto the casting belt, a coating composition consisting of a carrier liquid with additives incorporated therein is applied to that side of the casting belt which comes into contact with the melt, and, before the melt is charged, said coating composition is dried and is then integrally combined with the charged melt.
