[origin: EP2674346A1] The method involves assigning power consumption of decentralized field elements (AZ1- AZ6, Bs, B1-B6, S1-S6, W1-W4) to predetermined load classes. A spatially and temporally resolved load profile for time interval under consideration is determined. A basic output in a power supply network (EB) assigned to a section (2) is chosen based on the load profile. Arrangement of chargeable storage elements (ES1, ES2) is chosen. The basic output and an output of the storage elements are designed to provide a power demand of the load profile with required temporal and/or spatial granularity. An independent claim is also included for a system for providing electric power to decentralized field elements of a railway network.
