[origin: WO2012113886A1] The invention relates to a plate-shaped pigment containing metal oxide, wherein the pigment containing metal oxide has a metal core made of elemental aluminum and/or an aluminum alloy, wherein the metal core is has a weight fraction in a range of 0 to 18 wt % relative to the total weight of aluminum and/or aluminum alloy and of metal oxide in the form of aluminum oxide and/or oxide of the aluminum alloy, wherein the aluminum and/or the aluminum alloy forms a core coated with aluminum oxide and/or the oxide of the aluminum alloy, with the stipulation that the aluminum alloy has an aluminum content of at least 60 wt % relative to the total weight of the aluminum alloy. The invention further relates to a method for producing said pigments and to the use of said pigments.
