[origin: WO2012120413A1] The invention relates to a method for determining the optimised lighting of an area of human skin for studying the surface condition thereof, the area of skin having raised areas, the lighting coming from a device comprising one or more light sources and generating shadow areas next to the raised areas, the method including the following steps: defining a first parameter P1 according to the contrast between the luminosity inside the shadow areas and the luminosity outside the shadow areas; defining a second parameter P2 in accordance with the uniformity of the luminosity; defining a cost function C according to the first parameter P1 and/or to the second parameter P2; and searching for a maximum for the cost function C.
