[origin: WO2012126923A1] The invention relates to a composite material (1, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18) in the form of a layer material made of flat layers that lie one over the other in order to produce a structural component (20), in particular for structural components (20) of a motor vehicle, comprising at least one metal layer (2, 3) and at least one fiber-reinforced plastic layer (4, 4', 7, 1, 13, 15). The aim of the invention is to reduce the weight and increase the strength of a structural component that is made of the composite material while reducing the component costs. This is achieved in that the fiber-reinforced plastic layer (4, 4', 7, 11, 13, 15) has a matrix based on polypropylene, polyethylene, polyamide, and/or mixtures thereof.
