The lock has locking elements like lock latch (1) and lock pawl (2), in which the lock pawl is disabled in a user-side lock pawl operation, in normal operation. An adjustable crash element allows the pawl to operate freely in the actuating position. The crash element stands in normal operation outside the pawl for actuating predominantly or continuously, in the blocking position and is adjusted in the course of lock pawl operation, before digging the lock pawl from the locked position into the actuating position. An independent claim is included for a method for operating motor vehicle lock.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Kraftfahrzeugschloss mit den Schließelementen Sehlossfalle (1) und Sperrklinke (2), wobei im Normalbetrieb die Sperrklinke (2) in einer benutzerseitigen Sperrklinkenbetätigung aushebbar ist, wobei ein verstellbares Crashelement (6) vorgesehen ist, das in einer Betätigungsstellung die Sperrklinkenbetätigung erlaubt und in einer Sperrstellung die Sperrklinkenbetä-tigung blockiert oder freilaufen lässt. Es wird vorgeschlagen, dass die Anord-nung so getroffen ist, dass das Crashelement (6) im Normalbetrieb außerhalb der Sperrklinkenbetätigung zumindest überwiegend, insbesondere ständig, in der Sperrstellung steht und im Zuge der Sperrklinkenbetätigung vor dem Ausheben der Sperrklinke (2) von der Sperrstellung in die Betätigungsstellung verstellt wird.
