A method of controlling the slewing gear (4) of a slewing crane (1) comprising at least one three-phase motor (10) which is mechanically coupled to a slewable part of the crane (1) and by which the slewable part of the crane (1) is turned about a slewing axis (5), wherein when a change of loading of the three-phase motor (10) occurs the speed of the three-phase motor (10) is changed and the torque of the three-phase motor (10) is kept constant or substantially constant.
