The invention relates to a method for controlling an automated transmission having a plurality of actuating cylinders (6, 8, 20) which are activated by pressure medium using assigned shift valves or venting and ventilating valves (10, 12, 16, 18, 22), one or more main cut-off valves (4) which are arranged upstream of the shifting valves or venting and ventilating valves, and having a control unit for controlling these valves, wherein the pressure lines which are arranged downstream of the respective main cut-off valves (4) are connected to one another. Since the main cut-off valves (4) are, for reasons of structural simplicity and for reasons of cost, usually constructed as simple 2/2-way valves which only permit an increase in pressure, but not a drop in pressure, in the pressure lines arranged downstream, there is provision that, for the purposes of dropping the pressure in the pressure line system (30, 32, 34) which is arranged downstream of the respective main cut-off valves (4), shift valves or venting and ventilating valves (6, 8) of an actuating cylinder (8), which is not to be respectively activated at that particular time, are controlled in such a way that the pressure line system is connected to a pressure medium discharge line (14).
