Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2012140145A1] The invention relates to a contact-making device for protective switching devices having contact points arranged in two parallel circuits, wherein the contact point (6) in the main current path is intended only for conducting the operating current and is switched so as to be deenergized. The contact point (11) in the shunt, on the other hand, merely does the switching work when arcs are produced. By virtue of the invention, the energy losses of the protective switching devices during normal operation are reduced sustainably by more than 50% in comparison with known designs. Owing to the arrangement of the thermal release (10) in the shunt, the influence of the fluctuation in the ambient temperature at the installation location on the tripping function of the protective switching device can be prevented, with the result that, given the same safety for the electrical system, the lines in the electrical installation can be utilized more effectively. In terms of its dimensions, the invention is compatible with conventional products; it is therefore possible at any time for said invention to be used as a replacement in existing systems.
