[origin: EP2698213A1] The marking device (1) has a receiving device (2) which is provided for receiving measured feature data of a container and/or one or more container configurations. A creating device (3) is provided for creating marking data based on the measured feature data. The marking data is created in such a way to indicate which of several criteria of container and/or one or more container configurations do not satisfy. An applying device (4) is provided for physically applying marking onto container, in which marking is based on the marking data. An independent claim is included for method for marking containers.
