[origin: DE102012219291B3] The device (1) has a rotary ring (4) comprising a transparent wall portion, and an optical display element i.e. LED, for displaying an operating mode of a household appliance. The display element is covered by the rotary ring, and the transparent wall portion is overlapped with the display element. The rotary ring is formed as a hollow ring profile, which is guided to a radial guide of a housing (2). The radial guide is concentric to a rotational axis (R). An arm is oriented in a direction of the rotational axis, and a drive i.e. pin, is extended from the arm. An independent claim is also included for a smoothing iron.
