Abstract (en)
[origin: EP2700899A2] The accelerator (10) has a sabot (18) provided with a projectile retainer (32), where a front end of the retainer receives a projectile (16). A sabot stopper (30) is arranged at a front end region of an acceleration pipe (12). A posterior end of the pipe is coupled with a compression device (34). The retainer is provided with a polygonal cross section area transverse to an acceleration direction (14). The pipe and the sabot respectively comprise a polygonal inner surface area (24) and a polygonal outer surface area (26) such that the sabot slides along the inner surface area of the pipe.
