[origin: WO2012149947A1] The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for packaging groups of articles (1) combined to form packaging units (2). In the first instance, the packaging unit (2) is wrapped with a sheet material (3) in its running direction (L) on a transporting path (T). During this operation, at the same time, a sheet-material overlap (4) is formed and folding flaps (5, 6, 7, 8), each projecting beyond the packaging unit (2) along the transverse peripheries, are defined. Thereafter, the folding flaps (5, 6, 7, 8) are positioned against the packaging unit (2) as they run through a folding unit (9). After this, and/or at the same time, the folding flaps (5, 6, 7, 8) are fixed to one another to form a sheet-material wrapper which is closed on all sides.
