[origin: WO2012163536A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a palletless packaging unit (19) which comprises multiple packaging objects stacked into a stack (15) of products. The packaging objects are stacked such that at least two engagement regions (14) for fork arms of a forklift are formed by a special layer (9) on at least one stack level. A normal layer (13) is stacked adjacently to a special layer (9), said normal layer projecting past the special layer on at least two sides, and the stack (15) of products is wrapped with a film (4). An economical process according to the invention, said process reliably leaving the engagement regions free in particular, is characterized in that the special layer (9) is laid onto the film (4), and a retaining layer (9) is placed between the special layer (9) and the adjacent normal layer (13) and is connected to the film (4). The invention further relates to a device for producing a packaging unit (19) that comprises a plurality of packaging objects stacked into a stack (15) of products. The device is provided with a device for wrapping the stack of products with a film, and the device comprises a base device (5) which forms a support surface (6) for supporting the packaging objects and which has vertically movable shaping jaws (8) that are mutually spaced such that said jaws enclose the special layer (9) in the raised position of the jaws. The device also has a joining device (12) which is associated with the shaping jaws (8) and with which the film (4) can be connected to a retaining layer (10) that is placed on the special layer (9).
