[origin: EP2717002A1] The method involves providing a refrigeration unit with a refrigeration circuit flowing-through to a refrigerant with an evaporator, which is provided in a heat exchange relationship with the ambient air. The ambient air temperature (12) and the evaporation temperature (14) of the refrigerant are determined in the evaporator. The defrosting time (30) is determined in response to a temperature difference between the ambient air temperature and the evaporation temperature. A ventilator is provided with a rotational speed (20), which supplies ambient air to the evaporator. An independent claim is included for a refrigerator, particularly for a heat pump with a control unit.
