[origin: EP2717255A1] The shoulder rest (30) has a resting element (32) configured to rest on a shoulder or chest of a player, where the resting element includes a base (34) made of compressed wood with mean compression of approximately 15 to 25%. The base has a cross-sectional area of 60 square millimeter preferably of 75 square millimeter, and at most 210 square millimeter, preferably of 150 square millimeter, in relation to a longitudinal direction of the resting element. The base is formed by a workpiece cut from a block of the compressed wood.
