According to the invention, a second controller (11) provides the first regulating circuit with a nominal value regarding the volume flow, wherein the determination of the actual height (hist) of the casting level (1) is carried out while taking into account a standing wave on the casting level (1) preferably by means of a number of optical waveguides (12). In this way, the height of the casting level can be kept constant in the mold in an improved manner.
