[origin: WO2012168080A1] An emergency system for power failures is described, comprising a single-cell or multiple-cell, rechargeable battery from the group comprising NiMH, NiCd, NiZn, Ag2O/Zn or lithium-ion batteries and also charging electronics for charging this battery, wherein the charging electronics provide a charging voltage which does not overcharge the battery even at a temperature of up to 80°C, preferably of up to 85°C. In addition, a circuit board for a data processing device and also a method for operating a data processing device are described which use such an emergency system. The use of a combination of a single-cell or multiple-cell, rechargeable battery and the aforementioned charging electronics as an electronic component having the properties of a double-layer capacitor is also described.
