[origin: WO2012167292A1] In order to operate an electronic ballast (9) for a luminous means (10), an input voltage (Vin) of the electronic ballast (9) is detected and is compared with a reference value (V1-V3) representing a tolerable minimum input voltage of the electronic ballast (9). If the input voltage undershoots the reference value (V1-V3), that is to say if an undervoltage is detected, an electrical output power supplied to the luminous means (10) by the electronic ballast (9) is reduced.
