[origin: WO2012175076A1] The invention relates to a pipe wrench or water pump wrench (10) having a clamp (12) having a first shaft-like grip part (14), at one end (16) of which a first jaw (18) having a gripping surface (20) is provided. The pipe wrench or water pump wrench (10) comprises a handle (22) having a second shaft-like grip part (24), at one end (26) of which there is arranged a second jaw (28) which is formed with an appropriately complementary gripping surface (30) with respect to the first jaw (18), and a pivot pin (32) about which the clamp (12) and the handle (22) are formed so as to be pivotable with respect to one another, wherein the pivot pin (32) is formed in a displaceable manner by means of an adjusting mechanism (34). The adjusting mechanism (34) has a toothed slot (36) in the clamp (12), in which toothed slot (36) a likewise toothed latching body (38) engages in a first position for latching, wherein the latching body is formed so as to be displaceable in a second position in the toothed slot (36).
