[origin: WO2013003876A2] The invention relates to a folding apparatus (2) for a bending press (1), wherein the bending press (1) is equipped with a bending punch (8) and with a press crosshead (9), which is arranged above the bending punch (8) and guides the latter up and down vertically. The essential factor here is for an upwardly directed, in particular horizontal bearing surface (15) for a workpiece (4) to be formed on the press crosshead (9), and for a stamping surface (16), which is parallel to the bearing surface (15) and aligned therewith, to be arranged above said bearing surface, wherein the stamping surface (16) and the bearing surface (15) are in contact, or form a gap (17) of less than 0.5 mm, when the press crosshead (9) is in an upper end position, and wherein the stamping surface (16) and the bearing surface (15) are spaced apart when the press crosshead (9) is in a lowered position. The invention also specifies a method which is intended for implementing folding by means of a bending press (1) and which comprises a folding operation as the press crosshead (9) is moving upwards. This gives rise to a folding apparatus (2), and a method for implementing folding, allowing shorter set-up and processing times and keeping the tool costs low at the same time.
