[origin: WO2013004242A1] The substructure system comprises a resilient bottom plate in the form of a mineral fibre plate having a Young's modulus of 0.5 MPa to 1 MPa. A high bending strength top plate is positioned on top of the bottom plate with one major surface of the respective plates abutting each other to support the ballast layer for distribution of local pressures from the ballast layer and protection of the resilient bottom plate, the top plate having a Young's modulus of at least at least 2.6 MPa. Further, a ballasted substructure, use of such a substructure system, and methods of manufacturing and positioning of such a substructure system are disclosed.
