[origin: WO2013007837A2] The invention relates to a peripheral venous catheter, comprising a vein indwelling section and a cannula, wherein the vein indwelling section comprises a connection section and a tube connected to the connection section in a bonded manner and wherein the cannula is inserted into the vein indwelling section before the venous catheter is inserted into a vein, wherein a wall extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal extension is provided in the connection section, which wall comprises a plurality of circular-ring-like wall segments and has a central passage for the cannula at the center of the wall, such that the wall segments bound a chamber provided in the connection section on the side facing the tube in order to receive blood escaping from the tube after the cannula has been removed.
