[origin: WO2013014280A1] Steel according to an exemplary embodiment comprises tantalum in a fraction of between 0.01 and 2 percent by weight and a carbon fraction, which is at least 0.25 percent by weight and at most 1.55 percent by weight. A component (110; 120) according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention comprises this steel at least in one portion, the portion extending from a surface (160; 170) of the component (110; 120) into an interior of the component (110; 120), and wherein the component (110; 120) is case-hardened (200; 210) in the portion. This may allow improved and/or easier case hardening to be achieved.
