Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2493456A] A method of controlling a responsive load 30 or population of responsive loads 30, connected to an electric power grid 10 with a nominal operating frequency, controls the power consumption of the loads 30 as a function of the time-varying frequency of the power grid 10. A frequency threshold is assigned to each load 30, which frequency triggers adjusted power consumption of the load 30. Un-triggered loads 30 available for power consumption alteration have their target frequencies adjusted, scaling to replace the frequency bands occupied by recently triggered loads 30, or to correspond to a frequency closer to the nominal frequency. Each adjustment may be of a predetermined amount, or a function of two consecutive network 10 frequency measurements. All available loads 30 may be adjusted by the same amount. A responsive load 30 to which such a method is applied, and a software product to execute the method are also provided.
