[origin: WO2013053814A2] The invention relates to a shank-type pick for a road milling machine or the like, having a pick head and a pick shank, wherein the pick shank has a first cylindrical section which indirectly or directly adjoins the pick head, and wherein the pick shank has a second cylindrical section which is remote from the pick head and indirectly or directly adjoins the first cylindrical section, and wherein the diameter of the second cylindrical section differs from the diameter of the first cylindrical section. With such a shank-type pick, improved use properties arise in that the first cylindrical section has a diameter in the range between 18 mm and 30 mm and an extent in the direction of the centre longitudinal axis of the pick shank of less than 30 mm.
