[origin: WO2013057139A1] The invention relates to a silencer for a handgun that has an adapter unit (2, 3, 4, 5), by means of which the silencer can be releasably connected to the muzzle of a barrel of a handgun or an intermediate piece fitted thereon, in particular a muzzle blast damper (1), wherein the silencer also has a damping core (7) for reducing the sound and, ahead of that, a first expansion chamber for the expansion of gas, which are enclosed by a housing (6, 8), characterized in that both the damping core (7) on the adapter unit (2, 3, 4, 5) and the housing (6, 8) or parts (6) of the housing are releasably fastened to the adapter unit (2, 3, 4, 5).
