[origin: WO2013091984A1] The invention relates to a distance measuring device (10), in particular a hand-held distance measuring device, comprising a distance measuring unit (12) that is provided for acquiring at least one measured distance value in at least one measuring direction (24). According to the invention, the distance measuring device comprises at least one group forming unit (34), which is provided for assigning a measured distance value to one of at least two measured value groups. The invention further relates to a method for distance measurement in which measured distance data from the distance measuring unit and/or orientation data from an orientation sensor unit and/or absolute position data from an absolute value sensor unit are transmitted to a visualisation unit. In particular, by means of said method, a measured distance value can be assigned to a measured value group.
