[origin: EP2801520A1] An arresting apparatus (2) for arresting a rotational motion of two components relative to each other, comprises a first arresting means (4) having a longitudinal axis (14) and at least one first engaging element (8), a second arresting means (6, 20) having an opening (12) and at least one second engaging element (10). In a first mode of operation, the first arresting means (4) extends through a first section (13) of the opening (12) of the second arresting means (6, 20) such that it is freely rotatable and the at least one first engaging element (8) and the at least one second engaging element (10) are distanced from each other. In a second mode of operation, the first arresting means (4) is misaligned and extends through a second section (15) of the opening (12) of the second arresting means (6, 20) such that the at least one first engaging element (8) and the at least one second engaging element (10) engage and arrest the first arresting means (4) relative to the second arresting means (6, 20). By integrating an arresting apparatus into a geared rotary actuator and/or a transmission shaft or a section branching off from a transmission shaft of a high lift drive system, a misalignment leads to an arresting function, allowing the detection of a loss of speed of a drive, such that the misalignment is detectable without requiring dedicated sensors.
