[origin: WO2013104594A1] A long-range device (10) comprises at least one optical channel (12), which has a housing (20) and an arrangement of optical elements (14, 16, 18), at least one (16) of the optical elements (14, 16, 18) being mobile in relation to the housing (20) for the purpose of image stabilization when the housing (20) is subject to disturbing movements. It further comprises a stabilization system (24) for the at least one mobile optical element (16), said stabilization system having an eddy current damper (32) for damping movements of the at least one mobile element (16), which eddy current damper generates a restoring force that is proportional to the displacement speed of the at least one mobile optical element (16) when the at least one mobile optical element (16) is displaced. The eddy current damper (32) comprises a magnet system (34) and an eddy current support (38) interacting therewith. The restoring force generated by the eddy current damper (32) depends on the amplitude of displacement of the at least one mobile optical element (16).
