[origin: WO2013117714A1] A device for monitoring a distribution point in telecommunications networks, in particular a cable sleeve (22) in a sleeve shaft having a shaft cover (21), has a control unit (2), a battery (4), a communications unit (3), and at least one sensor (11) which is designed as an acceleration, movement and/or orientation sensor. The communications unit (3) is capable of transmitting symbol sequences and receiving symbol sequences via a mobile telephone network. The control unit (2) and the communications unit (3) are programmed to be in a sleep mode in a normal state. The control unit (2) is also programmed to automatically cause the communications unit (3) to wake up if an event is detected by at least one sensor (11), wherein the communications unit (3) then proactively transmits an alarm message via the mobile telephone network. The device is additionally programmed such that the communications unit (3) is woken at predetermined times, transmits a status message and remains active for a predetermined time in order to receive a possible programming message transmitted via the mobile telephone network to the device.
